Helga Schenzer has been leading a cross-cultural life as a German national in France since 1983. Before, she had already become familiar with foreign cultures through her work experience in an international company where she was responsible for export information to customers, and through her travels and work abroad. Her studies in Germany and in France had focused on economics and business administration as well as applied foreign languages.

While teaching German at the University of Technology in Compiègne/France, she participated in the research project on cross-cultural German-French management funded by the BOSCH-Foundation (1989-1992). This research experience gave her sensitivity to the two cultures a scientific and empirical basis. By being bicultural and bilingual, one merely experiences cross-cultural differences regarding values, mentality, work, communication, etc. However, cross-cultural awareness, understanding and openness require much more, i.e. reflexion and research on one's culture and its origins.

The results of this research project brought out the cross-cultural differences and difficulties in the transnational cooperation between the French and Germans. Since 1992, Helga Schenzer has been a consultant and trainer for Jacques Pateau Consultants (Compiègne/France) providing cross-cultural training for international mergers in various sectors, such as chemical, steel, aeronautics, life sciences, telecommunications.
